Well, first of all, it's my opinion of the site which may or may not be fully explicated in each comments section... but there's a big difference between taking something funny and putting it into a site to make the site "funny" and making a funny site. The first is arbitrary in that what is added is not an integral part of the site, it is interchangeable with no loss to the site. Here, however, it's bordering on fearcondom's tired trick of "look, I made an animation with funny parts."
But, if you just had an unanimated picture of eddie murphy looking at some meercats, is it funny? I would find it somewhat odd, as in this site, but not all that great. Adding the animation makes the meercats funnier, as it imitates them in reality, but it does nothing for the site as a whole. The parts don't add up to a whole, they just add up to parts. The thing that's "wrong with" these arbitrary types of things is that I don't find them creative or humorous. It's an opinion, and I think that's allowed.
I think that chronster has the capability to make complete sites. fearcondom is either content to just pump out gimmicky sites or he's just too lazy to craft a cohesive site, even though he puts plenty of effort into the pieces, and I, personally, would enjoy it if chronster gave his things a little more thought as I think it would go a long way, speaking from experience. I also happen to be of the opinion that other people would enjoy the extra cohesiveness as well...
I try not to explain my reasoning for anything with my sites, but ok. I made this gif of Eddie Murphy looking around and right away it treminded me of a meerkat looking out for predators. I was going to put him in the stands of a tennis game with some umph noises from a couple female tennis players, but I couldn't find the material for that, so I started in on the meerkat idea. At the last moment, I decided to put him in the observatory dome watching the meerkats rather than living with them.
It wasn't the music that made it feel like a fearcondom site, it was the animation. It feels exactly like you described it... you thought of some funny ideas and parts and found a way to put some of them together. It doesn't feel like a cohesive piece. What I'm saying is that while what you came up with isn't terrible, but if you really said something then it could make it exponentially better. For instance: arm Eddie with a machine gun and it's "Meercat Mercenary" or... you know... use your imagination.
I disagree, I do feel it needs an extra kick but not for the reasons you are stating and I still think its one of the best sites Ive seen in a while. I think the expressions of Eddy Murphy could have been more conducive to creating humor. That said however I think with a little bit of patience this type of site is the kind you can stare at for hours and it just keeps getting funnier and funnier. Then again I also love most of fearcondoms stuff so I guess Im not a great judge.
