gumcounter, not quite. The universe is a 2d projection on our retina. Both frames used are from the same time, one is made from a 'left-eye' perspective with the other the 'right eye'. Combine them both and our brains reconstruct the 3d image.

Does anyone know where you can buy a camera that does this, or how to do it with 1 camera on non-moving objects?

In the case of this image, this person had a 2 camera setup to take at the same time.You need a tripod and 1 camera to do this well with non-moving subjects, lock the tripod so the camera wont move, take a shot, and depending on your subject, move a few feet to one side and take another shot, if you can on the camera, preview quickly between images right after you've taken them, and it should work right there in the field for you if you've done it right.
