Thanks a lot, Bob. I had been wondering for so long how to do this and how other people did it, and I stumbled upon this. Didn't even read the title, just blindly clicked on it in your user profile because it was your highest rated (that's how I browse for funnies XD), and I watch, and I'm amazed. Once again, thanks. Now I can make something actually GOOD.

Indeed it did. I tried to get a scene from LOTR for my YTMND... someone took the idea by the time I got it.

nope. youre just inviting people to do straight rips from 'funny' scenes in movies.
February 14th, 2007
(1)
Bob, I helped you out because you know how to tell a joke. I help out a lot of people. But I also get people who have made zero sites, and have been registered 2 days ask me how to make these things, and I tell them to make a few classic style sites first, otherwise they are just gonna post straight scenes from Family Guy. I know you think this is a kindness, but the people who want to make good sites will search this stuff out. . I could be wrong, but I doubt it

February 14th, 2007
(0)
You have truly earned the title of builder, nice work, it's nice to see people suing thier brains
February 14th, 2007
(3)
ytmnd already has thousands of sh*tty ytmnds come in everyday. considering how long this takes to do, people not many more sh*tty ytmnds will come in. i just thought everyone should get to know how to do this so they can one day make a great ytmnd. EVERYONE SHOULD GET THAT CHANCE.
February 14th, 2007

Bob, have I ever steered you wrong? Burn this thing with fire
February 14th, 2007

Nice! I'm sure this will help a lot of people. And, since when is Imageready free? maybe a trial...

I'll give it a 3 for being helpful..

cool
February 14th, 2007
(0)
i hope you realized what you just did by spreading it around. anyways there are little steps missing that might confuse some.
February 14th, 2007
(0)
anyways i dont think of it as negatively as some here do, lack of knowledge doesnt stop people from posting, and neither will knowledge. i just hope some people are responsible enough not to just make 'lol _____' of every one of their dvds.
February 14th, 2007
(0)
i doubt i'd ever take the time to do this, but it is helpful.
February 14th, 2007
(1)
at least i know that theres enough really annoying steps and possible problems in ImageReady to maybe turn people away from it even after one go. i just know theres someone whos going to select 'every frame' for a 5 minute .avi and totally ruin their computer forever :P
February 14th, 2007
(0)
LoL is this how money-hat does it??? How surprising, this is a VERY innefficient way to go about it. If you use virtualdub, you can open the file straight off your DVD, cut out the frames, crop out the letterbox and process in 1 quick step. -1 because of how innefficient this is. With the length of time this takes you don't have to be worried about YTMND getting flooded with movie clip things, it takes way too much patience for the average slobbering YTMNDer retard to do. They will stick to their sh*te.
February 14th, 2007
(0)
Personally, I help anyone that messages me asking for it and if I feel motivated enough and think that their site has enough potential and just needs a little bit of fixing (like removing adgif from the image). However, I believe that there should be some drive to find out on your own about something like this. Maybe I won't have to bang the head on the wall every time I see AdGif like I do now... you get a 2 for that.

Aye, VirtualDub is a wonderful lil program.
February 14th, 2007
(0)
And I will put your tutorial to good use. Don't worry money-hat, I won't post scenes straight from Family guy. Honest.
February 14th, 2007
(0)
hey, if virtualdub works better, then by all means use that. this is just the way i know how to do it.
February 14th, 2007
(0)
Thanks buddy! I'll bookmark this for later.

February 14th, 2007

i have virtualdub, and it can be useful, but i dont use it for DVDs. frankly i dont care for virtualdubs setup, but thats just me.
February 14th, 2007

YTMND crusaders take this all too seriously. The bigger YTMND gets; the more garbage there's going to be. Period. I think some sort of a format change is needed to make searching sites according to styles and tastes possible; and perhaps a user customizable front page that displays the types of sites that interest them. There's never going to be no pleasing everyone; and it's really pointless to stress over something you have no control over.

Ok, confession.... I didn't actually watch the whole gif, when I commented... it was moving slow and I DO use DVDshrink to start off, so I just thought I saw enough... I stand by what I said, but it's not like these are Magician's secrets, and the steps are enough to deter the lazy users... So I don't condemn this site anymore....

5 for being a nice tutorial and a reinforced 5 by using Night at the Roxbury as the example movie. You rock and MAKE MORE!!!
February 14th, 2007
(0)
So here is what I use.... different from the tutorial... 3 steps, but you get nice big sharp gifs. --- 1) DVDshrink (freeware) -- 2) DGDecode (also free) that converts it into an D2V file. --- 3)Then VFAPI Reader Codec(free) that converts it to an AVI. --- I like to use Jasc Animation Shop to make gifs, It's a lot easier to use for a beginner than Imageready ( and cheaper) --- I have to use Imageready for somethings tho...
February 14th, 2007
(0)
money-hat's way makes better images and such, this way is a tad bit easier....choose whichever you guys want.
February 14th, 2007

And money-hat i know that you told me to make classic style ytmnds, and i will do that before i make a gif ytmnd, i just thought this will help me in the long run. Anyways this is much appreciated.

saw this when it was at 0 votes and I was hoping it wouldn't get like this... every week a new guy goes "oh look I figured out how to make ytmnds so I want to tell everyone" and posts a bunch of programs, gets a huge rating for no apparent reason. I'm just glad these generally are posted at times of day so they don't clog the top viewed. If you really want to be a helpful guy just post your tutorial on the wiki.
February 14th, 2007
(0)
very handy!
February 14th, 2007
(0)
Actually if you make it into an mpeg to start with it is way easier. Just use IMTOO mpeg converter, you can load the whole thing into imageready then just take out the selected frames.
February 14th, 2007
(1)
Wow, that's a lot more efficient than the way I've been doing it (all hail Print Screen!). Faved for future reference.

yep, i got a 30 day photoshop trial awhile ago, and you get to keep imageready as consolation prize for tearing all your hair out in frustration from learning PS ( well I did anyway)

i talked to a kid who asked me what program i used to edit images and i told him ImageReady. so he went and downloaded the program for free. i could ask him where he got it from.
February 14th, 2007

Or just record the section you want with fraps and use imageready to convert it to a gif.
February 14th, 2007

Easy to follow, but I don't have all the programs needed.
February 14th, 2007

GJ there "Max"... You, "Max," have indeed trained the masses to rail upon us with tired unedited video clips at a whopping 2 frames a second. I can't wait until this WHOLE FRIGGIN SITE IS NOTHING BUT A LOW RENT YOUTUBE. THANKS "MAX"
February 14th, 2007
(0)
By the way, i'm calling you max cuz of the whole "C:\Documents And Settings\Max\My Documents\My Pictures" thing, not because I think you own this site.

i know
February 14th, 2007
(0)
People like you make me feel warm and fuzzy.
February 14th, 2007
(0)
Also, tutorials for the masses are bad ideas because if people had any talent, they would look up how to do these things elsewhere and not need instruction. This is pure bottom feeder stuff here, just the right amount of knowledge to be dangerous (i.e. unfunny e.g. red leader).
February 14th, 2007
(0)
Objections aside, this is a good tutorial though. I wanna downvote, but the quality is there. You get a [VERY COMPREHENSIVE]/5.
February 14th, 2007

Very awesome!
February 14th, 2007
(1)
1'd for fad whoring. Boo hoo we want to keep that info secret so only the cool YTMND people know how to make animated gifs from a DVD :( Now we can't be so elitist anymore :(((
February 14th, 2007
(0)
whew... New DVDSHrink Skill Master'd
February 14th, 2007
(0)
Eh, it's not about secrets, it's about someone who would come to YTMND.com to learn how to make a .gif from a DVD. That information is WIDELY available about the internets. People too lazy to find it out there, who need someone here to tell them how to do it, I don't expect too much from. I'M WATCHING YOU WISDUMCUBE AND WYDRA.
February 14th, 2007

Also, to those who are against this type of ytmnd; knowledge is power. Helping ppl stop making crap is actually a good thing

I've had some more problems with ImageReady recently, I used a different suite of programs. Snagging video from YouTube is helpful as well, as with the wide selection of video you can get from there really helps with the WTF factor ;P

I don't use these methods at all........but 5'd for bringing goodness to the world of YTMND
February 15th, 2007

Whatever - it's not like people are going to go crazy with this information anyways. Most of it is readily available if you have interest in doing it, and none of the concepts are that foreign. I need a mac avi to gif converter though...

This is probably one of the most helpful YTMNDs ever. This site will bring more good to YTMND than all those donation sites combined. Good YTMNDs will keep YTMND alive more than 3-5 dollars from a bunch of random people.

I can understand why money-hat or MasterSitsu would dislike this YTMND. If everyone had the knowledge to make good YTMNDs, where does that leave them? They are no longer special, but we must look at the broader picture and YTMND is better off with 1000 MasterSitsus rather than 1.
February 15th, 2007
(0)
Japan , Korea & China alone is home to about 85.7 MILLION Master Sitsus! What's 1000 more? but I don't think he wants another one in Canada tho... I'm on the fence with this, it's a Pandora's Box for sure, but what are you gonna do? I even posted my method up in the comments, in good spirit
February 15th, 2007

meh, I thought about it more and this can't be that bad after all.
February 15th, 2007

5 for being helpful. for me personally, I like taking screenshots. then I know exactly which frames I'm getting. I won't accidentally get a frame with a lot of blur, or if I want a frame with blur I can specifically take that one.

Yeah, my last two sites have been from DVDs. Both are edited. They might not have a brian peppers or NEDM inserted but the timing and context are changed. My Hostage site wasn't a joke in the movie, it was meant to be serious. Out of context you can see how silly it is. I can see this tutorial being used by kids to rip jokes from comedies and throw in Brian Peppers in sex scenes.
February 15th, 2007
(0)
Oh gee, now we'll have a bunch of really well made, but terribly unfunny YTMNDs.

February 15th, 2007

Maybe this should be an article on the YTMND wiki, since it takes like 10 minutes to watch it and you can't go back if you miss something, and is thus useless if you're trying to follow it step-by-step.

"I can understand why money-hat or MasterSitsu would dislike this YTMND. If everyone had the knowledge to make good YTMNDs, where does that leave them?" - this may sound arrogant to some people, but simply being able to rip gifs from movies isnt going to make you a good ytmnder.

Hey, lay off the guy. I've been looking for this information forever. He damn well deserves his five, because no longer do i have to use and edit sh*tty clips from YouTube and get my quality site rated down because of it. It was either that or take snapshots of EACH frame with my software DVD player... Been there, done that. Besides, I'm a huge BobTheBuilder fan, and rightfully so.

arent screenshots better for getting less frame-heavy gifs? snapshots from VLC media player are easy to use. FAV'd for a reference

-1 for ImageReady cuz it's not free. Good info, though. I'm on a mac, so the process is different for me. I find that ripping gifs from DVDs is nonetheless a cumbersome process and i only do it when I think it would make a completely awesome YTMND.

I'm sure I won't get a response but I might as well ask. When I open the avi in Imageready and choose to skip ever 3rd frame or so the the speed of each frame does not change so it goes too fast. Any advice or is there a way to change the speed of every frame to the same thing (and not individually because that would take forever)? Thanks again for the tutorial, I love it.

I love you. Until now I've been taking screenshots of DVD's playing in slow-mo and layering in Photoshop for hours.

So I've been doing by pausing it, taking a capture, unpausing it and pausing it again and taking another etc., then playing it again and recording the wav out. So many wasted hours... I hate my life.

VIsraWratS just pointed me to this site. This is gonna help me out alot, as I have tons of ideas for (hopefully) great YTMND's, but had no idea how to put them together. It will be a big step in the right direction. Thanx a ton for this.

The featured users are just scared us lowly non-featured users are going to make decent ytmnd's, imho.

Why is every single gif that ImageReady outputs for me in black and white instead of color?
