Actually, it releases all the seratonin. So if you take too much, you have no more happy for the rest of the week. Also, the chemical geared towards ultimately removing the seratonin gets released too much, and the release mechanism can be damaged. This chemical then destroys the cell, if that happens. Also heart attacks and overheating.

Overheating, which is why you need to keep well hydrated. Also, even small amounts can drain your seratonin, and you will feel depressed a few days later, hence the term "wednesday blues".

It's more of a laser death ray of joy. And it's not a problem of not having enough seratonin, but of the receptors in cells shutting down in response to being over stimulated. Repeated use causes receptors to permanently shut down, thus creating tolerance to the drug's effect as well as an inability to feel appropriately "happy" without the use of drugs. And it gets cut with speed or acid or cocaine or rat poison or baking powder, etc etc etc. Happy trails!

Here's a little tip I learned from a neuropsych prof I had: 1. Take your ecstasy (just an average dose, mind you) 2. Have your fun 3. Take a dose of Prozac. It helps prevent neuron damage and helps your dopamine levels normalize.

I wish I knew the Prozac trick back in the day. Oh well. My wife & I actually opened a portal to another world in our haunted living room on a bi-weekly basis for about 2 years. That, or we had the best shared hallucinations ever, you decide. All I know is, my brain definately did that. ^^
