I have nothing wrong with Comedy Central advertising on YTMND to support it.

Btape, it's not about the ad, it's about how the exposure on the colbert report is kind of making ytmnd becoming a mainstream type site.

State of Mind, is that really a bad thing? I to like the idea of being part of something that is not widely known, it makes it all the more personal and means less morons than if it it became big. Isn't YTMND's success a good thing though? I imagine Max would like to make money rather than owe it and as awful as mainstream sounds, mainstream isn't always bad. The inability of the masses to truly appreciate something cheapen it, it just makes our kind all the more rare and valuable to YTMND.

Brilliant. Great idea.

Qoht: The problem is, people who see it on Comedy Central or read about it in Newsweek come and check it out, which drives up server traffic without providing any revenue. Max needs to learn that Ads can't sustain a website any more. He needs to sell Platinum memberships or t-shirts or something.

I despise all forms of mind-bending propaganda. The eyes follow me and the message thinks it controls me. But they don't control me and while I wear my mind-protecting helmet I secretly plot against them in the compartment hidden under my living room floor. You're crazy man...just plain crazy. everyonefails.ytmnd.com

Donations are a completely worthless way to support a website. There is no incentive for people to continue donating because of the FREE RIDER problem, and it is highly doubtful that premium memberships will cover all of the costs. And, as for the "server traffic without providing any revenue"... revenue is directly tied to server traffic as are costs. The more ads you have the greater your revenues per hit. When revenues per hit match (total) costs per hit, then you have a sustainable non-profit site.

Also, comedy central sells adds on its website and is doing ytmnd a huge favor by buying addspace on ytmnd.

"Comedy Central? What?" Have you not noticed the damn Roast of Wiliam Shatner ad? That smiley is representing another annoying ad.
