"socrates is the dude on the far left"
No, that is Plato. He sits somberly awaiting his friend’s unfortunate but ethically necessary death. If you don't believe me check:
http://www.bc.edu/bc_org/avp/cas/his/CoreArt/art/neocl_dav_soc.html
"Only Plato, at the foot of the bed and Crito grasping his master's leg, seem in control of themselves."

"why the f*ck are they moving?"
It keeps instep with the lol archetype. The hilarity of that particular fad is enhanced by a certain perception of mania and insanity conveyed through movement. I also thought that Socrates' pointing hand lightly resembled Ronald’s in the original lol the internet YTMND.

I like how if you don't upvote this, you're either or uncultured or uneducated. Nice logic people. The fact that most of you don't understand the meaning of this (and there really is none) while putting the others down that actually do see what the author is doing shows that you are psuedo-intellectual, hypocrital egomaniacs. He has done this once before with Immanuel Kant. Wikipedia's intellectual property is not garunteed.

"who DOESN'T know all about this!?" Socrates was killed after willingly
consuming hemlock in accordance with his ethical devotion to Athenian law.
It would be what he is receiving in that goblet.-- well no sh*t... ytmnd is to cut back a bit, while this is trying to look vastly intelligent and just looking. . . like something everyone should already know

Hey, UrbanSombrero and misspoptart I don't know what the hell is wrong with the both of you but no one is calling you uncultured. I am fully aware that there are a lot of people that don't get the reference. You can try and put yourselves up as some kind of down voting martyrs somewhere else because I don’t give a damn whether or not you ultimately get the reference.
