Thanks for taking the time, I've been trying to remember this list of songs for years whenever people bring up doom music. Plus, NEDM!!!
September 24th, 2006

"Partly what it proves is that a lot of metal all sounds the same..." - Dondrei. I have to agree with this, and although I like metal, it's pretty much the truth...
September 24th, 2006

NEDM!
September 24th, 2006
(0)
good work, sh*t finish
September 24th, 2006
(0)
The person who directed the sound and music for Doom 1 and 2 was Trent from Nine Inch Nails.
September 24th, 2006
(0)
Not only is this really old, but the guy who composed Doom's music (forgot his name) even said he got inspiration from metal. 4 for NEDM.
September 24th, 2006
(0)
Jesus Christ on a stick.....I KNOW THIS STUFF ALREADY! I know that the person who did Doom's music was in a band and I know that he worked with people from other bands and I know that he said he got his inspiration from these bands and their songs. I KNOW THIS! I don't care about that. This site is just to show the similarities, so GET THAT THROUGH YOUR HEADS!
September 24th, 2006
(0)
BTW, that comment was to people who were DOWNVOTING because this is old or because the guy who did the music worked with bands. Not the people who were just casually saying it. There's a difference between informing me of that (even though I already knew) and downvoting me because of it. That comment went out to those idiots.
September 24th, 2006
(0)
very cool... 5 for good bands
September 24th, 2006
(0)
"The thing is, all of those bands copied from Doom, not vice versa. Doom music is the original... pretty much" Yes, the music for Doom was being written in 1981 and Metallica somwhow snuk into their offices and stole the riff for No Remorse. Idiot.
September 24th, 2006
(0)
It's not much of a surprise, really.
September 24th, 2006
(0)
doesn't even matter that it's got NEDM. 5+!!!
September 24th, 2006
(0)
NEDM pride. I never would have found all those, so you get a five.
September 24th, 2006
(0)
YOU SIR, ARE AN EPIC GENIUS. (Loved the ending ftw. xD)
September 24th, 2006

All of those bands suck, so one 1 starred.
September 24th, 2006
(0)
so? i bet it was intentional.
September 24th, 2006
(0)
That is aweone. I need to make a compilation CD with all of those songs and call it NEDM. Or someone else needs to do it.
September 24th, 2006
(0)
Good times, and manura, just because your family lives in it doesn't mean you need to spread it around.
September 24th, 2006
(0)
lol, NEDM makes doom music cool
September 24th, 2006
(0)
finally, somebody who didn't say E1M1 is Master of Puppets. The style is similar (since it's based on another Metallica song), but it really isn't that much like Master of Puppets. 5'd
September 24th, 2006
(0)
Either way, Doom 1 and 2 have some of the best video game soundtracks ever.
September 24th, 2006
(0)
Unbelievable! Nice find.
September 24th, 2006

September 24th, 2006

NEDM!!!
September 25th, 2006

Imitation is the highest form of flattery. Great composers used to sample music from each other into their own orchestrations. Then again that was way back before the day of P-Diddy and his lack of musical creativity. I don't care if the Doom music was sampled from anything else. Its metal and it rocks. Period. I have an orchestrated version of E1M1 that I crank up in my truck. It rocks, and this comparison rocks as well. Good to know the Doom guys are keeping the music alive. Rock on.
September 25th, 2006
(0)
nice synch
September 25th, 2006
(0)
That was ID's intention. Doom is a metal game. Metal games come with metal music.
September 26th, 2006
(0)
not only did the game doom ripoff all of those bands, but the doom logo is a ripoff of a crust punk band called doom from the 80's!!!!!!!!!!
September 26th, 2006

most of them sounded like twins to me
September 27th, 2006

Buncha f*gs downvoting your site because 5 seconds at the end of a 5 minute show. You downvoters are a bunch of fruity mc gay gays. (f*cking lame, with NEDM ppl downvote, but without it they would have too) What do you expect poor shallow to do?
September 27th, 2006
(0)
Meh, about as similar as Amazing Grace and the Mickey Mouse Club theme song and the Gilligan's Island theme song.
September 27th, 2006
(0)
Well done. I was only able to guess about 4 or 5 of them before I heard the original music. The Alice In Chains stuff is particularly obvious.

The first one with Metallica - No Remorse hardly sounds like E1M1. Either that or its just in a different key or something.

Yeah, anyone that didn't notice the similarities up until now, kill yourselves. Metal owns. Doom owns. But together, it owns so hard, it gives me an erection thinking about it.

I'm glad you got Them Bones. I heard that on the radio and I said holy sh*t, Barrels o' Fun.

Them Bones was funny as hell, because I expected the singing to start in the MIDI version.
February 6th, 2007
(0)
This is the best compilation of Doom music comparisons. Very well-put together, very complete. I was surprised, though, coz usually "Master of Puppets" makes it in there somewhere. But who cares? And it's amusing if not quite pathetic that people have lowered their votes because of the NEDM thing. HE'S PLAYING ON THE FACT THAT EVERYBODY HATES THE STUPID FAD, ASSTARDS!!!!!!
February 19th, 2007
(0)
Great site, and 5 because of nedm, doom, and to help compensate for all the downvoters. Faved because I care.

Nice presentation. I remember hearing the pantera and alice in chains similarities back in '95, and saying "holy crap".
April 21st, 2007
(0)
The riff which was supposed to be based on big gun by ac/dc is clearly NOT correct, it's the "spider riff" from master of puppets by metallica, anyone can tell that...I suggest you change it
April 28th, 2007
(0)
i KNEW you would throw in NEDM! XD
April 30th, 2007

thank god NEDM was at the end. I waited so long for it.

e1m1 is a weird combination of Master of Puppets and No Remorse. It's a good comparison though. Some of those I've heard about but never heard the originals. Nice!
September 15th, 2007
(0)
At least you didn't put in MAP01 being Hangar 18. I am so tired of people saying that, it's just got the same progression, Nirvana's Aneurysm has the same progression, Them Bones has the same progression (though not drawn out to an entire bar). Also, it was pretty decently cool.
October 27th, 2007
(0)
You get a 5 for the NEDM at the end alone. If I could give you ten for the awesome metal I would.
November 10th, 2007
(0)
Putting "THERE'S NO NEDM HERE I PROMISE" at the start of a long YTMND isn't convincing.
November 21st, 2007
(0)
"doesn't have anything to do with nedm" pfft who do you think you were fooling? also great site, i like how i knew the songs before you revealed which ones they sound like.
December 6th, 2007
(0)
The chord progressions are very similar. This is like that comedian who makes a living by pointing out the musical similarities between Pachelbel's Canon and a whole buttload of other songs. Don't hate on Bobby Prince because he matched the texture of an entire genre of music.
February 28th, 2008
(0)
A few that I've personally thought sounded alike: Doom II Map 6/12/24 - Alice in Chains - Man in the Box, TNT Map 11 - Soundgarden - Rusty Cage, TNT Map 8/27/30 - Smashing Pumpkins - Jellybelly
February 29th, 2008

5 FOR NEDM!!!!!
June 16th, 2008
(0)
Metallica to id Software: I can has royaltiez now, pleez? Someone pointed out one of the Pantera songs back when I played Doom 2, they just never specified which one. Nice work. All of these songs were "made" by Bobby Prince, and there are several sites about him getting "inspiration" from other bands and not really doing anything origiminalz, lol. Also cawkz!
August 28th, 2008
(0)
Hmmm this kind of disapoints me. I thought the sound designers came up with all that great music for the game on their own.
October 28th, 2008
(0)
I was listening to this and you know - I think E1M4 sounds more like Superconductor by Rush. Same EXACT riff.
October 30th, 2008
(0)
Heh, sounds like for the first Doom they took influence, whereas for Doom 2, they just asked to copy and paste tracks into the video game :P
