One of the crew poured a can of liquid Swartz into a flux capacitor. The resulting power surge opened a multitude of variances causing the capacitor to simultaneously input multiple times at once. With the Fitzgerald existing in every time period the resulting paradox caused matter to reassert itself and separated the Fitzgerald from all time lines. So it is now out of phase, existing as a fourth dimensional entity. To an observer it only appears to be moving at the speed of accelerated subatomic particles.
