And all the downvoters upset that I disrespected Cosmo, f*ck you. I know you like Richards. So do I! I didn't do this as a slight against him, I did this because I see the character of Kramer hopping up and down screaming it at the rest of the Seinfeld cast. And that mental picture is -f*cking hilarious-.
Its inappropriate, but as with all shocking comments like this, it has been cut to the point we dont see what happened that set him off. you never know how that sh*t will reframe things - it doesnt excuse what was said but it might make him look like doing a sh*tty job at managing hecklers rather than intentionally being racist. the "he's a n*gg*r, look a n*gg*r" thing is SOOOO dumbly stated that it can only be EXTREME racism, or really badly presented irony...
theres also the "say what will piss them off most even if you dont believe it" theory. on some level it doesnt matter because someone should know better than do this sort of thing in public - even if it is out of context you WILL look stupid as you try to explain yourself. either way its disappointing. people are used to racist terms in certain contexts, but its going to take a lot of spinning on Kramers behalf to justify himself. any bets on him doing the "i have an alcohol addiction" thing?
and if it seems like im just defending Richards because everyone likes Kramer... well, on some level I want to believe he isnt that out there - but in reality it really is need for more information as well as Richards' response before deciding just how out there this was meant to be. Everyone from Barbara Bush to Quentin Tarantino to half this website has used or laughed at the term in ways that piss of SOMEONE - its all about acquiring a proper context.
Richards was an untrained comic who didn't know how to handle heckling, particuarly the Laugh Factory's tough crowds which can get really nasty in there and, yeah, ghetto sometimes. He freaked out really badly, after the outburst he pratically ran away from the stage crying, and now he's really paying for it. He's an *ssh*le celeb though, they all have it comin'.
The funny thing is I used to see Paul Rodriguez in the LF all the time and he'd talk racist sh*t to the heckling blacks in there too. The difference between him and Kramer's dumb *ss is 1) He was more subtle and pro about it 2) He made fun of himself and his race too at the same time, sort of give and trade 3) He was funny, even the black guys laughed at it, and 4) He obviously is not a hateful closet psycho like Kramer is.

he's going to be on Letterman tonight apologizing. I suppose since Seinfeld was supposed to be on promoting the DVD coming out tomorrow now was not a good time to draw attention. the only Nazi Jerry wants to be involved with is of the soup-dealing variety. anyways, on another note - i wonder how many people who own that poster will be taking it down this week...
I love how people laughed at his lynching joke at first, but as soon as he
dropped the n word they were all shocked. -- exactly. Not many people seem to realize that he was doing exactly what tons of comedians have done in the past to hecklers. He didn't do a great job, as all he got out was "see, it shocks you," but it's not exactly the first time a comedian has done exactly this.
