In mathematics, 0.999… is a recurring decimal exactly equal to 1. In other words, the symbols '0.999…' and '1' represent the same real number. (source Wikipedia)

actually theres the proof of .999 repeating equaling 1. I used to be a doubter, but .99 repeating does equal one. 1/3 x 3, the threes cancel and you end up with one, so 1/3 x 3=1. However, rewriting 1/3 as .33 repeating gives you, .333 repeating x 3 = .999 repeating. Therefore, .999 repeating =1. Arguably, the actual answer is somewhat of a limit, but the limit cannot be written. drmarioMD is right in that theres a limit fault, but is wrong in saying that .999 repeating isn't 1.
