The Millenium Falcon could get out there pretty quickly. Remember, it's the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs.

This is probably a good site to show Green Lantern fans that insist 3600 Green Lanterns, each with thier own personal sector,(now 7200) patrol the entire Universe for crime, rather than just our Galaxy... Which in itself is spreading it amazingly thin.

I remember reading about this back in 2003 or whenenver it was revealed. absolutely mind boggling. Almost makes me want to study Astrology, then I realize that I would have to take Astronomy and I'm probably the worst math student ever. Oh well, I'm still facsinated by this stuff.

how the hell does a site get voted 2s and 3s and then make it into the top 5? It's more of a mystery than something like the size of our universe lol.

Don't forget that all we see is just a small portion of matter in the universe. Dark matter makes up 5-6 times more of the total matter in the universe. We are "seeing" just a tiny portion of it.
September 14th, 2006
(0)
So that's where that picture came from! But remeber, relativity states time is a variable, not a constant. It doesn't necessarily take 10 billion light years to get from there to here (but still might want to grab a snickers)

also, this counts as further proof there's no way we are the only species with technology. why all that space for one group of ungrateful "humans" eh? the good thing is once we finish making this planet completely uninhabitable, we now know theres someplace else to go a and destroy keeping our options open.
September 14th, 2006
(0)
I think the reason people find this so fascinating is because few of us have ever looked out into space and seen anything besides a bunch of white dots. Everything I've ever learned about space dealt solely with our solar system. We all know that space is infinite but being able to look AT something and say "right there is an entire galaxy that we know absolutely nothing about, and there's trillions of planets in that one little spot." is just mind blowing

"Short film. And Ive seen that image before. Nothing new." Not only that, but this pic has been up on the Google search engine for well over a year now, I've seen it again and again while doing searches for it. If one clicks on it, you can find all this information on there. Its interesting, but just because you came up with the idea to make it a ytmnd, does not deserve you an instant-five. Normally, I wouldn't rate a one on any site just for reasons like that, but since it has over 2,000 votes, 1'ing it is the only way over making any difference in opinion whatsoever. Sorry for the downvote.
September 14th, 2006
(0)
And if someone seriously made this before [on ytmnd. I recently just saw the video for this...not to mention that THAT video was based off of the article from NASA...), then this is just unfair beyond all belief that they didn't get a top-rated ytmnd. lol, NASA.

"I've had people tell me that dinosaur bones were either put there by teh devil to make us doubt, or they were left over from another planet that god used as spare parts when he made this one. Seriously." lol, their problem is that they try to argue away the existence of dinosaurs, instead of figuring out how/when they DID exist... cuz obviously they did, and I've heard plausible theories that stick to the universe being around 6k years old.

September 14th, 2006

KuroSata, this image PROVES the universe is much MUCH older than 6,000 years old. Unless you wish to argue what the speed of light is, explain to me how we can see light from objects that are 13 billion light years away if they have only existed for 6000 years? This image proves all claims about the Universe made in the Bible to be complete and utter BS if interpreted literally. However, depending what you want to define as a "day", many Christians have come to realize that the universe is in fact billions of years old..but could have still been created by God.

Omg... Beyond our galaxy is... MORE GALAXIES?! I NEVER F*CKING COULD HAVE GUESSED! But, I guess this YTMND is alright. I'd love to hear some dumbsh*t tell me that there is no life on other planets after seeing this. In a universe of uncountable stars, the odds of only 1 single planet being suitable for life are extremely small. But I degress. Nice job.

smoothmedia: While I wouldn't try to say that the universe is 6000 years old, cause that would be rather foolish, it's important to realize that because these galaxies are 13 billion light years away, that means that the light emitted from them is up to 13 billion years old (but probably less due to the expasion of the universe). So, assuming that the universe were, say 13,000,006,000 years old, these galaxies could *theoretically* be 6000 years old as you look at them ;)
September 14th, 2006

Oh and BTW, awesome YTMND. Helps put us all in our place logically, so to speak. Gives us something to think about.
September 14th, 2006

Thats only one... try mapping the whole universe from earths perspective... that would take a life time, with many microscopes... man there is no way... But that is pretty awesome. And yeah anyone who thinks the world was created 6000 years ago is pretty umm... shut in?

why is this top rated? im sorry but ITS NOT FUNNY. ill read astronomy articles for this information. I think the top rated ytmnd should be HILLARIOUS. not a powerpoint presentation. if its 'unfunny' it gets a 1.

You know how there are all these theories about how there is intelligent life out there... What if we are the first planet with intelligent life and this is just the beginning... I always thought it was interesting to think like this...
September 14th, 2006

Just think the universe being this big it would be a huge waste of space not of have life anywhere else. Also anyone who has seen statistics on the likelyhood of there being life anywhere else. We don't know how big the universe is even yet!

September 14th, 2006

A 3 because I already knew a lot of that stuff. Plus you're wrong, that image is a bit famous now, and it's only 1,000 galaxies not 10,000. Not that that's not still uber impressive

Also, the estimated average of stars per galaxy is 100 billion, and there's 50-100 billion galaxies. Why haven't the aliens bothered us yet. I swear one day we're going to get enslaved

September 14th, 2006

this YTMND made me depressed because you know there HAS to be life in a planet out there somewhere and we'll never know =( Heres my theory since it would take to long for us to travel, the aliens live for so much longer that the amount of time seems insignificant to them because they are so superior. Also the UFOs have got multiple light speed blasters on the sides than combined with the outer spinning propels them faster than light into hyperdimensions. Theres no other explenation. im gonna go infiltrate area 51 and take pics lol

September 14th, 2006
(0)
I can't stand to give this one star because it really is pretty amazing information, and cool music. Nevertheless, I really don't think informational YTMNDs are worth much at all. It just doesn't make sense to do them. You have to put all the text in a GIF, you have to deal with preloading nonsense, you can't do hyperlinks and stuff... It's just a lot better to make a message board post about it. But the presentation is pretty nice, so an extra star...
September 14th, 2006

Jesus.
September 14th, 2006
(0)
That is just amazing man. Cool stuff
September 14th, 2006
(0)
I also can't help but feel that a lot of people give this 5 stars because they want to seem smarter than other YTMNDers who are "neanderthalic" enough to laugh at dumb nonsensical humor, which is the very foundation of YTMND. But don't think that has anything to do with my rating. I already explained that.
September 14th, 2006
(0)
I need to vote more than 5 stars. This is at least a 7. A++ for the Coast to Coast AM reference, and I'm still laughing at the "grab a Snickers" line. You win! Good day sir.
September 14th, 2006
(0)
Well Lemming, I don't know about others here, but I genuinely enjoy a wide range of sites.. from the dumbest, simplest humor to scientific presentations to abstract art and beyond. I downvote "slideshow presentations" all the time, I just honestly enjoyed this site.

I took a semester in astronomy university, then dropped out (to go to medical school) and I knew that it was this big and all, the teachers said it there... Seriously, the universe is so f*cking big, I can't even comprehend it. With that many possible planets out there, there's gotta be life, seems like a no brainer if you ask me.

Makes me want to change my major to physics/astronomy. The last time something got me somewhere close to being this excited about science and space exploration was when I really learned what e=mc2 meant. I am truly excited for the exploration that awaits mankind's endeavor--if we can stop hating eachother and focus to the space above us. I wish I could live long enough to see that.

The funny thing about Hubble is that it's able to see that, but not the American flag on the moon (which would require a lense several hundreds of yards in length).

Give me hate if need be, but I knew this. Your YTMND is dependent on the ignorance of others. I could only give you one over a single star because these are nice pictures. In summary all I can say is, "So?"

I didn't know YTMND users were so stupid as to never know stuff like this, so to them it would seem amazing. I've seen that photo many times and know a lot about astronomy so to me, this is absolutely nothing special, just amazed at the stupidity of ytmnd users.
