Hm... You know the Genocide city music is in the sound selection? I think they used it for a multiplayer level. This music f*cking owns, but it might make more sense to put the real music. Then again... god damn I love this f*cking song, god damn Sonic used to own, arrghh, nostalgia...

Yeah, I remember hearing about this. Technically it's in the Sonic 2 Beta ROM, but it's an empty blue space of death. The boss was rumored to be a burning Sonic skeleton. Of course, that was too scary for the kiddies and it got pulled.

This isn't a screenshot of what Genocide City would have actually been; while there was a slot for it in the Sonic 2 beta, no final version was ever released. I don't think they even started to make tiles for it.

I remember when I first entered the Sonic 2 level select code.... the first level I went to was Genocide City, because that name has such a "WTF factor" for a Sonic game! I was so freaking disappointed though. :( There is a ROM hack ("Sonic 2 Extended Edition" or something) where the author comes up with actual working levels for all of the deleted stuff, including a full three-act Death Egg... it's pretty neat

So much to say about this YTMND... okay, let's start. When I saw the preview, I was a tad scared to click it. Eventually (today), I mustered up the virtue of courage and viewed the site. For Genocide City, a man's skeleton cruxifed, WTF?! The music does sound pretty cool, though, yet I'd have to agree that this stage might tramuatize a little kid, so it's a good thing Sega got rid of this Zone.

Ah, the memories. Really, the Sonic series was awesome. It started sucking after Sonic 3. Genocide city zone: the beta level that wasn't. I remember spending hours guessing at what might have been. Ah, the good old days. I miss being able to look at Sonic 2 and saying "COOL! The gameplay is better than everything else out there and the graphics are awesome!" Wait, on second thought, I could still say that. Modern games suxxor big time.

I remember that fan game. Apparently in the original idea for Genocide City, Robotnik was going to test out his Death Egg on a city (the level). But this idea was scrapped. Launch Base Zone is possibly a remake of sorts.
