Wikipedia: The Kaaba is the holiest place in Islam. The qibla, the direction Muslims face during prayer, is the direction from any point to the Kaaba. So no, it's not because mohammed was born there.

Some religions are allowed to have some requirements. Muslims pray 5 times a day, Christianity as well as Judiasm has both of their religious practices. Does it mean everyone does it? No.

They're not upset because the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is portrayed, but because Denmark, a country that sent troops to Iraq, is letting its intolerance show.
