a song released by singer/songwriter Suzanne Vega, the very song that would be used to test audio while developing the MP3 file format, which earned Vega the "mother of the MP3" title. This song was written in 1982, recorded in 1986, and featured on the 1987 album Solitude Standing, and released in 1989 as a single. Since this song plays an important role in the development of the MP3 file format, there's no reason not to talk about it when making frequent use of that file format.
